Looking after it

One habit matters more than all the others: rinse it in fresh water after every use.

Salt, chlorine and sunscreen are what age technical swimwear, not swimming in it. A rinse takes ten seconds and does more for the life of a piece than anything else on this page.

Do this

Rinse after every use

Fresh, lukewarm water. Especially after salt, sand or chlorine.

Hand wash when needed

Cool water, mild detergent, no wringing. Most of the time a rinse is enough.

Dry flat, in the shade

Lay it flat or hang it out of direct sun. It dries fast enough that you will not be waiting.

Never this

No tumble dryer, no iron

High heat breaks down the elastane that gives the fabric its recovery. Heat damage is not covered by the warranty.

No fabric softener

It coats the fibres, which traps water and slows drying — the opposite of what the fabric is for.

No bleach, no hot water

Both attack the colour and the stretch. Cool water only.

Care questions

No. The fabric is built to handle both. What shortens its life is leaving them sitting in the fibres, which is why the rinse matters.

We would rather you did not. If you must, use a mesh bag on a cold delicate cycle with no softener, and never put it in the dryer afterwards.

Oils and some chemical filters can stain light fabrics. Let sunscreen dry on your skin before dressing, and rinse afterwards.

Completely dry, flat or loosely folded, out of direct sun. Never leave it balled up wet in a bag.
